Someone Else’s War

Until this last election, there were no members of either house of Congress who had served in Iraq or who even had a child serving in Iraq. Therefore when the vote for war was taken, no members of either house had any direct, familial contact with anyone who would be going to fight the battles. We all know President Bush’s sterling record of military service, and as one commentator put it, Dick Cheney “had other things to do” during the Vietnam War. (more…)
